Regular and Irregular Nouns
Read the following nouns and their plurals.
garden – gardens glass – glasses
castle – castles bus – buses
spider – spiders dish – dishes
We usually add -s or -es to singular nouns to form their plurals. Such nouns are called
regular nouns. However, there are some nouns that do not follow this rule to form their
plurals. Look at the examples given below:
woman – women calf – calves
tooth – teeth ox – oxen
sheep – sheep louse – lice
These nouns do not follow a particular pattern to form their plurals. In other words, they
form their plurals in irregular ways. They are called irregular nouns.
