Features of Excel
Following are some features of Excel 2016.
• It provides formulae for performing simple and complex calculations.
• It helps to search data quickly and replace it instantly.
• Data can also be viewed in graphical form like charts. It also helps us to compare data
eff ectively.
• It also provides various formatting features to improve the appearance of data.
Starting Excel 2016
Follow these steps to start Excel 2016.
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Scroll down the list and select Excel
2016. An ‘Excel 2016’ window will open.
Components of Excel 2016
The Excel window that appears on the
screen is called workbook. By default, the Step 2
name assigned to the workbook is Book 1.
A workbook consists of a number of pages
called worksheets. A worksheet is also called a
spreadsheet. A worksheet consists of 1,048,576
rows and 16,384 columns. The default name of

a worksheet is Sheet 1.

Cell
A cell is an intersection of a row
Name box Ribbon and a column. Each cell is known
