Stage
Stage is the area where the stories, games, and animations come to life. It is the main
working area where the Sprite moves. It consists of X and Y coordinates which indicate
the position of the Sprite on the Stage. The values of the coordinates are displayed at
the bottom right corner of the Stage.
Sprite
Each image in Scratch is called Sprite. It performs actions in the Scratch project. There
are many inbuilt Sprites in Scratch. Cat is the default Sprite in Scratch.
Blocks Palette
Blocks Palette is an area of the graphical user interface located between the Stage,
Sprite pane and Scripting Area. Here, the categories of blocks are colour-coded and can
be clicked to bring up a new set of blocks that can be dragged into the Scripting Area to
program a Sprite or the Stage. These blocks are divided into various categories such as
Motion, Control, Looks, Sound and Pen.
• Motion Block: It has instructions to make the Sprite move such as number of steps to
take and direction of motion.
• Pen Block: It has instructions to provide the trail of the Sprite such as to change the
colour of the trail.
• Sound Block: It has instructions such as to make the Sprite speak and add musical
notes.
