The relative clauses shown in italics in these sentences identify which person, place or thing we
are talking about.
A relative clause is a subordinate clause, which specifies or gives information about a person or
thing. It is connected to its main clause by a relative pronoun or a relative adverb.
The relative pronouns in English are who, whom, whose, which and that.
The relative adverbs are when and where.
