sounds.
• We can recognise the sounds of rain outside. Water
getting fi lled in a bottle or water being fl ushed in the
toilet.
• We also recognise the diff erent sounds made by diff erent
musical instruments like fl ute, piano and drums.
Sounds Made by Living Beings
Living beings like plants, animals and human beings make various sounds.
• Plants and trees make rustling sound when their leaves
and branches move due to air. The type of rustling sound
rustle!
the leaves make also indicate if it is the breeze blowing
or it is a storm. Dry fallen leaves also rustle when they
are blown by wind or swept by a broom. They make
crunching sound when we walk over them.

• Animals and birds make diff erent sounds. In the
morning, we hear birds chirping. Diff erent birds have
distinct sounds. For example, hens cluck, ducks quack,
crows caw and pigeons coo.

We can also list some sounds made by animals. For bhow!
example, lions roar, monkeys chatter, sheep bleat, dogs
bark and donkeys bray. In the same way, frogs croak,
snakes hiss, mosquitoes whine and bees buzz.
• Human beings make diff erent types of sounds. The sounds
they make can be vocal or by human action. Vocal sounds
achoo! include talking, singing, whispering, whistling, crying,
laughing, singing, sneezing or coughing. Sounds made by
human actions include clapping hands, rubbing palms,
knocking door, snapping fi ngers, walking, running, opening,
closing, dragging or dropping sounds.
