                        Write (T) for true and (F) for false statements.

                        1.  Pleasant sounds are generally high-pitched.
                        2.  Sound produced by loudspeakers is unpleasant to ears.
                        3.  Any loud and pleasant sound is called noise.

                        5.  Noise pollution can cause permanent deafness.



                    Ways to reduce noise pollution

                    •   Use of public transport and carpools should be encouraged to reduce vehicular

                        movement on road.

                    •   Honking should be consciously avoided, especially near schools, hospitals and
                        residential areas.

                    •   Vehicles, machines and appliances at home should be regularly checked and
                        maintained well to reduce noise.

                    •   Industries, airports, railway stations should be constructed away from residential

                        areas.

                    •   Bursting of fi re crackers should be avoided as much as possible.

                    •   Use of loudspeakers should be avoided, especially at night.

                    •   Avoid listening to loud music or watching television on high volume.

                    •   Using carpets and curtains at home helps in absorbing noise from outside.

                    •   Planting more trees helps in reducing noise pollution as trees and plants absorb
                        noise from the surroundings.

                        TERMS TO KNOW

                        1.  Pleasant sounds: Sounds which are harmonious, and make us feel happy and relaxed

                        2.  Unpleasant sounds: Sounds which are not good to hear and create disturbance
                        3.  Noise: Unpleasant sound

                        4.  Warning sounds: Loud sounds made to alert people about certain situations
                        5.  Noise pollution: A condition when noises become so excessive that they cause disturbance
                            to the health of living beings
