QUICK LOOK

                         1. In sexual reproduction, two parents are involved in producing a new individual.
                         2. In plants, embryo formed as a result of sexual reproduction is present inside the seed.

                         3. Under the favourable conditions like right soil, water, sunlight and air, the seed germinates
to develop into a seedling or young plant.
                         4. To avoid growing very close to each other, seeds need to disperse.
                         5. Agents like wind, water and animals help to disperse seeds.

                         6. New plants can also grow from vegetative parts like stems, roots and leaves of the parent
plant. This is called vegetative propagation.
                         7. Plants like mint, strawberry, sugar cane and rose can grow by stem cutting.

                                                             EXERCISES

                          1. Pollen grains land on ____________ and produce a tube which is called pollen
                              tube.

                          2. Once the ____________ is formed, it divides rapidly to form a multiple-celled
                              embryo.

                          3. In plants, embryo formed as a result of sexual reproduction is present inside
                              the ____________.

                          4. Seeds of dandelion are dispersed by ____________.

                          5. Seeds of mangrove are dispersed by ____________.

                          6. ____________ of carrot and sweet potato can give rise to new plants.

                    B. Write (T) for true and (F) for false statements.

                          1. The embryo divides to form a multiple-celled structure called

                              zygote.

                          2. Pollen tube carries the female gamete through the style to the
                              ovule.
