P. 123
For example,
2 L = (2 × 1000) mL = 2000 mL
3 L = (3 × 1000) mL = 3000 mL
20 L = (20 × 1000) mL = 20000 mL
Example 9: Express 3 L 250 mL in mL.
Solution: 3 L = 3 × 1000 mL = 3000 mL
3 L 250 mL = 3000 mL + 250 mL = 3250 mL
Conversion of millilitres into litres
To convert millilitres into litres, we divide by 1000. For example,
4000 mL = (4000 ÷ 1000) L = 4 L
13000 mL = (13000 ÷ 1000) L = 13 L
Example 10: Convert 4125 millilitres into litres and millilitres.
Solution: 4125 mL = 4000 mL + 125 mL
= 4 L + 125 mL = 4 L 125 mL
Quick Tip
4 028 mL 5 975 mL
When we convert mL into L and mL, the
last three digits always stand for mL. 4 L 28 mL 5 L 975 mL
