Measuring Weight

We weigh a thing to know how heavy or light it is.

              Recall

Tick the box next to the animal on the heavier side.

                (a) (b)

                (c) (d)

Similar to length, weight can also be measured in two ways.

              1. By using objects

              2. By using standard weights and weighing machines

To know the weight of an object, we compare its
weight with another object. For example, we can
use stones to weigh a child. But the stones may
not be the same everytime we weigh. Thus, the

weight will be different with different stones. To
get exact weight everytime we weigh a thing, we
need fixed measures. Grams and kilograms are the
most commonly used measures of weight.

            Gram

Gram is a small fixed measure of weight. It is used

to weigh light objects like chalk, pencil, gold, etc.

Gram is written as g in short.
