Short Form

To write the short form of an expanded number, we write the face value of each
            digit in the correct place.

            Look at the given example.

                                         H T O
                     100 + 20 + 8 = 1 2 8

The place value of 1 is 1 hundred. So, we
write 1 at the hundreds place.

The place value of 2 is 2 tens. So, we write
                                           2 at the tens place.

The place value of 8 is 8 ones. So, we write
                                           8 at the ones place.

            Similarly,

                     100 + 6 = 106 100 + 80 + 6 = 186

                 Quick Tip

We can write a number in three different forms.

Short form Word form/Number name Expanded form
                           174 One hundred seventy-four 100 + 70 + 4

9 Write the short form of the following numbers.

              (a) 100 + 6 = _________ (b) 100 + 20 + 9 = _________

              (c) 100 + 40 + 4 = _________ (d) 100 + 80 + 7 = _________

              (e) 100 + 90 = _________ (f) 100 + 10 + 1 = _________

              (g) 100 + 30 + 9 = _________ (h) 100 + 50 + 4 = _________
