Reading Time

We usually read time in hours and minutes.

When the minute hand is at 12, the hour hand tells 11 12 1

us what time it is. 10 2
                                                                                          9 3
For example, if the minute hand is at 12 and the 8 4
            hour hand is at 4, the time is 4 o’clock. 7 6 5
We can write it in two ways.

                          4 : 00 hours or 4 o’clock

                    hours minutes hours

The hour hand goes round the clock in 12 hours. Remember

A day has 24 hours in it. So, the hour hand has to
take two rounds of the clock in one day. A day is When the minute hand
divided into four parts. is at 12, it means
                                                                               00 minutes.
                • The time when the sun rises is morning.

                • The sun sets in the evening.

                • Noon is the time when the sun is directly over our head. The time between
noon and evening is called afternoon.

                • The time between evening and morning is night.
