The Story of Mowgli
Mowgli is a human child raised by wolf parents.
He grew up with a pack of wolves, learning to hunt
and eat like them. Other animals are his friends too.
But he has a fierce and dangerous enemy –
Shere Khan the tiger . . .
The stories of Mowgli’s adventures were written by the
British author and poet Rudyard Kipling. He was born
in Bombay (now called Mumbai) and lived in India
for many years. The Mowgli tales are included
in Kipling’s most famous book The Jungle Book,
published in 1894. These tales have excited
children and adults for more than a century,
and they are still popular across the world.
The two lessons that follow – ‘A Man’s Cub’ and
‘A Wolf’s Cub’ – tell us how Mowgli reached the
jungle and how Shere Khan became
his enemy . . .
