                    Tax

To generate revenues for spending on public benefits, the government collects revenue from the public in the
form of tax. Earlier there were various kinds of taxes in India such as Sales Tax, Entry Tax, VAT and Service
Tax. Now all the taxes have been replaced by a single tax called Goods and Services Tax (GST). There are
three main types of GST: Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) and
Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST).
Tax is calculated on the selling price and is added to the cost of goods and services. In case discount is applicable,
it is first deducted and then tax is applied on the net selling price. If discount is not given the selling price will
be the same as the marked price.
