Applications of Percentage
Example 7: Rohan’s monthly salary is 3% more than Rahul’s salary. If Rahul’s salary is ` 17,000,
then find Rohan’s salary.
3
Solution: 3% of Rahul’s salary = × ` 17,000 = ` 510
100
So, Rohan’s salary = Rahul’s salary + (3% of Rahul’s salary)
= ` 17,000 + ` 510 = ` 17,510
Example 8: A team has to score 60% of the given score to win a match. If the team scores 115 runs
and loses the match by 5 runs, then find the given score.
Solution: Score required to win the match = 115 runs + 5 runs = 120 runs
\ 60% of the given score = 120 runs
60 100
⇒ Given score = 120 ÷ = 120× = 200
100 60
Example 9: In a basket of apples, 24 out of 120 apples are rotten. What percentage of apples are
eatable?
Solution: Total number of apples = 120
Number of rotten apples = 24
\ Eatable apples = 120 – 24 = 96
