                        (a) 75 marks out of 100 marks is __________ per cent.
                        (b) 10 pens out of 100 pens is __________ per cent.

                        (c) 23 per cent = __________ out of 100
                        (d) 31 per cent = 31 out of __________
                      2. Express:

                        (a) 40 s as a percentage of 100 s (b) 14 kg as a percentage of 50 kg
                        (c) ` 210 as a percentage of ` 1,260 (d) 18 g as a percentage of 1 kg

                      3. What percentage of ` 550 is ` 50?
                      4. In a class of 70 students, 45 students passed a Mathematics test. What is the passing percentage
                        of students?
                      5. Find 45% of 5,000.
                      6. Sharad earned ` 15,000. He spend 30% of the amount earned on household expenses, 20% of
the remaining amount on shopping and saved the rest. What amount did he save?

                      7. Find the number if its 26% is 234.
                      8. The 12% of a number is 216. What is the number?

                      9. Samir scored 90% marks in his annual examination out of a total of 600 marks. How many marks
                        did he get?

                    Applications of Percentage

                    Example 7: Rohan’s monthly salary is 3% more than Rahul’s salary. If Rahul’s salary is ` 17,000,
                                  then find Rohan’s salary.
                                                            3
                    Solution: 3% of Rahul’s salary = × ` 17,000 = ` 510
                                                           100
                                    So, Rohan’s salary = Rahul’s salary + (3% of Rahul’s salary)
                                                        = ` 17,000 + ` 510 = ` 17,510

Example 8: A team has to score 60% of the given score to win a match. If the team scores 115 runs
and loses the match by 5 runs, then find the given score.
Solution: Score required to win the match = 115 runs + 5 runs = 120 runs
                                  \ 60% of the given score = 120 runs

                                                           60  100
                                  ⇒ Given score = 120 ÷   = 120× = 200
                                                           100  60
Example 9: In a basket of apples, 24 out of 120 apples are rotten. What percentage of apples are
                                  eatable?
Solution: Total number of apples = 120
Number of rotten apples = 24

                                  \ Eatable apples = 120 – 24 = 96

                                                                                                                        105
