Division Using Equal Grouping and Equal Sharing
A sports teacher carries a bag having 12 balls to distribute
among 4 players.
On giving 1 ball to each player, the teacher is left with 8
balls. So, he gives 1 more ball to each player.
He still has 4 balls. So, he gives 1 more ball to each player.
Player 1 Player 2 Player 3 Player 4
Observe that the sports teacher has distributed all 12 balls equally among 4 players. He
has divided 12 balls into 4 groups of 3 balls each.
It is written as 12 ÷ 4 = 3 and is read as twelve divided by four is equal to three.
Example 1: Alisha wants to distribute 15 stickers equally among 5 friends. How many
stickers will each friend get?
