Preface
Viva ICSE Geography for classes 6 to 8, conforms to the new curriculum released by the Council for the
Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) in November 2016.
Th e primary objective of this series is to enable the learners to appreciate the world around them and
to understand that the earth is the habitat of humans and other life forms. It also familiarises them
with their own region and makes them understand how interdependent we are, from local to the
global level and to study the developments of one region in relation to other parts of the world.
Th is series has been designed to present the concepts in a simple yet engaging manner. Each chapter
has exercises and activities that would make learning more meaningful and enable the learners to
make connections with the wider world.

Note: Th e boundaries of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir
and Ladakh depicted in the maps given on page 110, 124, 130 and 183 are
representational and not actual. According to the Jammu and Kashmir
Reorganisation Act, 2019, the former state is now bifurcated into two Union
Territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. As a result, India now has 28
states and 9 Union Territories, as opposed to the previous 29 and 7.
