Simple Past Tense
Read these sentences.
Large buds appeared on the vine.
The owner called his friends.
These sentences are in the simple past tense.
Simple past tense tells us
• about events that happened at a particular time in the past.
Faiz baked a cake yesterday.
• about things that happened in the past regularly.
Ruchika walked to school every day.
We add -d or -ed to change some verbs into their past tense forms.
dance – danced look – looked open – opened
There are many verbs that change completely or do not follow any rule while changing.
grow – grew ring – rang tell – told
shine – shone come – came stand – stood
