18 The Guinea Pig
Guinea pigs are small animals that are popular as pets. They squeak, run around and even
bite sometimes. Have you ever seen a guinea pig? Let us read a poem about a little guinea pig
who did interesting things.
There was a little guinea pig,
Who, being little, was not big.
He always walked upon his feet,
1
And never fasted when he’d eat.
When from a place he ran away,
He never at that place did stay;
And while he ran, as I am told,
He never stood still for young or old.

2
He often squeaked and sometimes was violent ,
And when he squeaked he never was silent.
Though never instructed by a cat,
He knew a mouse was not a rat.
4
One day, as I am certified ,
6
5
He took a whim and fairly died;
And as I’m told by men of sense,
He never has been living since.
A British rhyme
