Phishing
Phishing is a cybercrime where an e-mail is sent to a
person misguiding him/her to believe that it is from a
trusted organisation. Here, the individual is asked to
update his/her personal details such as user id, password,
transaction password and credit card details. The
information is then used to access important accounts
and can result in identity theft and fi nancial loss.
Guidelines to Prevent Phishing
• Do not open e-mails from unknown senders.
• Be conscious of the e-mail that send you link to update your personal information.
• Always keep your antivirus updated and protect your computer using Firewall.
• Always use offi cial banking websites to perform net banking.
• Always link your bank account to your current phone number and e-mail ID, so that you
get a message as soon as the transaction is carried out.
Hacking
Hacking refers to getting into someone’s
computer system without their permission in
order to fi nd out information or do something
illegal. Hacking has become very widespread
over the last decade. A person who gains
access to a computer system or network
without authorisation is called a hacker. Hackers
generally write programs in assembly or
C language and break into a computer system
either just for accepting the challenge of doing
so or for doing a crime. If the hacking is done for
a good cause, it is called ethical hacking.
Guidelines to Prevent Hacking
• Always secure your system by keeping it password protected.
• Keep antivirus always updated in your system.
• Never share your credit or debit card details and debit card pin on a website.
• Avoid installing apps which require accessing your information like contacts and gallery.
• Keep changing your passwords frequently.
