            2. Keeping the ruler firm, place the set square
above the ruler such that the right-angled
vertex is in contact with the ruler. l

            3. Slide the set square along the edge of the P
ruler until its vertical edge touches the given
               point P.
                                                                                                              l

            4. Draw a perpendicular line along the vertical P
edge of the set square passing through P to
               meet line l at Q.

                                                                                                              l
                                                                                                Q

            Using a ruler and compass

            1. With P as the centre and some convenient
radius, draw an arc intersecting line l at two P
               points A and B.

                                                                                                              l
                                                                                    A B

            2. Using the same radius with A and B as centres, P
construct two arcs that intersect at a point,
say Q on the side opposite to P.
                                                                                                              l

                                                                                              Q

                                                                                               P

            3. Join P and Q to obtain the required
               perpendicular. l
