Framing Word Problems
To frame a word problem on a given division statement, we proceed in the same
manner as we do for multiplication. Look at the example.
Example 15: Frame 2 word problems for 156 ÷ 6.
Solution: We can frame the word problems for 156 ÷ 6 as follows.
1. 156 marbles have to be kept in 6 boxes such that each box contains
equal number of marbles. How many marbles will be there in each
box?
2. Between how many children will 156 toffees be distributed, so that
each of them gets 6?
EXERCISE 6.7
1. 125 students are going for a school camp. If one tent can accommodate
4 children, how many tents will be required? How many children will be left?
2. Ms Verma bought a box of chocolates containing 207 bars. She packed
7 chocolates each in small packets to be given to children who come for her
daughter’s birthday party. How many packets does she make? How many
chocolates are left over?
3. A vegetable grocer packs carrots in bags of 10. How many bags will he need
to pack 350 carrots?
4. Rahul and Manav save ` 1 coins in a box. The box has 240 coins in it. Manav
sorts them into bags of 10. How many bags does he fill?
5. Shreya’s mother bought a box of strawberries containing 45 pieces. She asked
Shreya to divide these strawberries equally between herself, her mother and
her father. How many strawberries does each get?
