Thus, compare the digits at the tens place.
5 8 6 1 5 8 7 5
6 at the tens place 7 at the tens place
Since 6 < 7, 5861 < 5875.
5. Compare 7861 and 7865.
7 8 6 1 7 8 6 5
The digits at the thousands, hundreds and tens place are same in both the
numbers. Thus, compare the digits at the ones place.
7 8 6 1 7 8 6 5
1 at the ones place 5 at the ones place
Since 1 < 5, 7861 < 7865.

Before, After and Between
The numbers which follow one after the other are Remember
called consecutive numbers. For example, 1316, 1317,
1318, 1319, 1320 are consecutive numbers. Consecutive numbers can
also be written backwards.
A number one less than a given number comes just For example, 1320, 1319,
before it and is called its predecessor. 1318, 1317, 1316
A number one more than a given number comes just
after it and is called its successor.
Consider a 4-digit number 5863.
Its predecessor = 5863 – 1 = 5862 and its successor = 5863 + 1 = 5864.
