Money Conversion
You have already learnt that 1 rupee = 100 paise.
So, ` 2 = 2 × 100 paise = 200 paise
` 3 = 3 × 100 paise = 300 paise
` 15 = 15 × 100 paise = 1500 paise, and so on ...
If the amount is given in rupees and paise with a dot, simply remove ` and the dot
and write the amount in paise. For example, ` 3.65 = 365 p, ` 14.07 = 1407 p.
To change paise into rupees, put a point two places from the right. For example,
925 p = ` 9.25, 1150 p = ` 11.50
Counting Money
Now that you are familiar with conversion of rupees into paise and vice versa, let’s
learn to count money.
To calculate the amount of money, add the rupees and paise separately and then add
them together.
Example 1: Calculate the amount of money shown by the notes and coins.
(a) SPECIMEN SPECIMEN
(b) SPECIMEN SPECIMEN SPECIMEN
Solution: (a) ` 2 + ` 5 and 50 p + 25 p = ` 7 and 75 p = ` 7.75 or 775 p
(b) ` 5 + ` 20 + ` 1 and 50 p = ` 26 and 50 p = ` 26.50 or 2650 p
