P. 119
14,300 × 5
⇒ x = 4 = 17,875
\ Marked price of the shawl is ` 17,875.
Example 12: In a store, a pair of shoes is marked 15% above the cost price and the shopkeeper is
giving 10% discount on it. If the cost price of the pair of shoes is ` 700, find the profit
and profit per cent.
Solution: Marked price of a pair of shoes = 15% above cost price
= C.P. + 15% of C.P.
15
= ` 700 + × ` 700
100
= ` 700 + ` 105 = ` 805
Discount = 10% of ` 805
10
= × ` 805 = ` 80.50
100
\ S.P. = M.P. – Discount
= ` 805 – ` 80.50 = ` 724.50
Profit = S.P. – C.P.
= ` 724.50 – ` 700 = ` 24.50
24.50
Profit% = × 100% = 3.5%
