                    Tangram

Tangram is a Chinese puzzle consis ng of 7 pieces called tans, which are put
together or arranged to make diff erent shapes. These pieces are cut from a
square. Tangram is said to have originated in China about 1000 years ago.
The tangram pieces consist of fi ve triangles, a square and a parallelogram
(a fl at shape having opposite sides equal and parallel). Tangram not only
gives a visualiza on of the basic geometrical shapes but is also a crea ve
game that helps us classify shapes and sharpens our thinking ability.

A tangram with its solu on is given below.

                    Tessellation

We have learnt in the previous class that arrangement of shapes or les that fi t into each
other without leaving any gaps or are overlapping is called tessella on or ling. A beehive
made up of several honeycombs is a good example of tessella on.
