Comparing Numbers

Let’s revise the rules to compare numbers.

                     • A 2-digit number is always bigger than a 1-digit number.

For example, 22 is bigger than 3. It is wri en as 22 > 3.

                     • To compare 2-digit numbers:

Compare the tens place fi rst.

For example, 3 tens is bigger than 2 tens. So, 35 is bigger than 21. It is

                          wri en as 35 > 21.

If the tens place is the same, compare the ones place.

For example, 9 is bigger than 6. So, 69 is bigger than 66. It is wri en as
                          69 > 66.

                     6. Write more or less in the boxes.

                           (a) 32 is less than 45 . (b) 84 is than 78 .

                           (c) 26 is than 20 . (d) 90 is than 91 .

                           (e) 74 is than 79 . (f) 51 is than 15 .

                           (g) 88 is than 77 . (h) 63 is than 61 .

                      7. Put the correct sign >, < or = in the boxes.

                           (a) 49 < 57 (b) 63 60 (c) 17 71

                           (d) 72 43 (e) 87 87 (f) 56 65

                           (g) 91 99 (h) 24 17 (i) 60 16

                                                                                                                         81
