Patan Durbar Square Swayambhunath
Th e Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO Swayambhunath is a Buddhist stupa on the
World Heritage Site, is a marvel of Newar western hills of Kathmandu. Th is 2,500-year-
architecture with its square fl oor tiled with old monument is a holy site replete with
red bricks. One of its major attractions is the symbols and historic artefacts which were
ancient royal palace where the Malla Kings of also destroyed in the earthquake.

Impact of Earthquake on Mt Everest
Th e impact of Nepal’s earthquake was
devastating. Th e earthquake was so powerful
that it even shift ed the world’s highest peak—
Mount Everest—by three centimetres. Th e
7.8 magnitude quake reversed Everest’s
north-east course.
Mount Everest, which has a height of
more than 8,848 metres (29,000 feet)
above sea level, sits between China
and Nepal. Mount Everest has moved
Patan Durbar Square—before and after the 4 centimetres to the north-east every year
earthquake, and its reconstruction
