Activity
A timeline is a visual representation of important events during a period of time in the order in which
they occurred. They are a good way to remember important dates and events and are also fun to
make!
Think of all the events in your life which are important to you. They could be milestones like when
you were born or when you started school, or they could be events which are signifi cant only to you,
like when you met your best friend or achieved a secret goal. Make a list of these events along with
the dates on which they happened, and be as accurate as possible. You can choose as many events as
you deem important.
Using the list you have made, make a timeline of your life. On a paper card or a cut out, write the
year/date of the event and describe it in a line. You can also make pictures of these events on the card
or use photos if available. Stretch a length of twine or a strong string on a wall in your room. With
the help of clothespins, hang the cards in chronological order (beginning from the earliest event and
progressing accordingly), just as you would put clothes on a clothesline. Use your creativity to make
your cards as attractive and detailed as possible. Keep expanding your clothesline as and when you
need to add more memories and milestones to your life’s timeline.
