Speaking
In the story, we see Alice trying to have polite conversations with the Duchess and the Cheshire Cat.
Notice how her questions begin with expressions like ‘Please, would you tell me’ while asking for
help.
Pair up with a classmate. Imagine that one of you is new to a place and must ask the other person for
directions. Begin your conversation politely in this manner:
Person 1: Excuse me! May I ask for some help?
Person 2: Yes, of course. How can I help you?
Person 1: Well, I’m new to this place. Please, would you tell me . . .
Continue the conversation in front of the class. Remember to keep the dialogue short and polite and
end it in a satisfactory manner.
Writing
Read the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. It has many strange and fascinating characters
like the White Rabbit, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, etc.
Choose any one of these characters and describe her/him in a paragraph. You can write about
the character’s physical appearance, behaviour, attitude, and how she/he responds to the
events in the story.
