12 My House Is Haunted – II

Have you ever stayed away from your home? Did you miss home? Were you glad to go back

home later? Have a discussion in class.
In the previous chapter, the Sesemann household experienced some mysterious happenings.
Read the rest of the story to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Mr Sesemann and Dr Classen listened carefully, hearing the turning of the double
                                                                              1
locks and the door opening. Mr Sesemann seized his revolver.
‘You are not afraid, are you?’ said the doctor, getting up.
                                             2
‘Better be cautious !’ whispered Mr Sesemann, taking the candelabrum in the other
hand. The doctor followed with his revolver and light and went out into the hall.
The moonlight was shining through the open door, falling on a still white figure at
                    the entrance.
‘Who’s there?’ shouted the doctor at the figure.
                                                            3
The figure turned and uttered a low cry. There in her white nightgown stood
                                                                    4
Heidi, with bare feet, looking bewildered at the bright light and the weapons. She was
                                                                                                         5
shaking with fear, while the two men were looking at her in amazement .
‘Sesemann, this seems to be our little ghost,’ said the doctor.

‘Heidi, what does this mean?’ asked
Mr Sesemann. ‘What are you doing
                    down here?’
White with fear and hardly able to

speak, Heidi said, ‘I do not know.’
                       The doctor came forward now.
‘Sesemann, this case belongs to my
field. Please go and sit down while I

                    take her to bed.’
                       Putting his revolver aside, the
doctor led the scared child upstairs.
‘Don’t be afraid, little girl. Everything

is all right. Don’t be frightened.’
