The above table has the following features.
• The caption is an optional description of the table. In the above table, the caption is
‘Yesterday’s Weather’.
• Rows are the horizontal lines of data. The given table has six rows starting with the ‘City’
row and ending with the ‘Jaipur’ row.
• Columns are the vertical lines of data. There are four columns in this example, starting
with ‘City’ and ending with ‘Wind Direction’.
• Each piece of data is at the intersection of a column and a row. These intersections are
called cells. Since there are six rows and four columns in the above table, there are 24
cells.
• Finally, the fi rst four cells (‘City’, ‘Highest Temperature’, ‘Lowest Temperature’ and ‘Wind
Direction’) show labels for the types of information in each column. These special cells
are called headings.
Let’s learn about various tabs used to create tables in a web page.
Tags Used in Tables
Table is defi ned with the <Table> tag. As a table is divided into rows and columns, the <TR> tag
is used for row and each row is divided into data cells represented by the <TD> tag.
The letter TR stands for ‘Table Row’, while TD stands for ‘Table Data’. Let’s learn to create a table
with 2 rows and 2 columns having pink background.
