Basic Terminology Related to Internet

Website

A collection of web pages containing related
information is called a website. Each website has a unique address called
Uniform Resource Locator (URL).
Web Page

The page on the Internet containing information is called the web page. It is in digital

format and is designed by web designers. The information is in the form of text, images,
graphics, audio, video and links to other pages.

Home Page

The main or fi rst page of a particular website is called the home page. This page appears
on opening a website.

Web Browser

A software that allows the users to access information on the Internet and view websites
and related web pages is called the web browser. There is an address line at the top
of the web browser. The user can type the address

of the website (URL) that needs to be visited in Learn More
the Address Bar. Some popular web browsers are URL or Uniform Resource Locator
Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Google is the address of a web page. It is
Chrome and Safari. unique for each webpage.

Hyperlink

A web page has many links to a topic which may be in the same page or in an entirely
diff erent document. These links are called hyperlinks. A hyperlink can be a word, a picture

or an icon that moves the user from one web page or website to another.
