Example 2: Write the successor of (a) 3,440 (b) 40,99,999

            Solution: (a) The successor of 3,440 is 3,440 + 1 = 3,441
                          (b) The successor of 40,99,999 is 40,99,999 + 1 = 41,00,000
            Example 3: Write the predecessor of (a) 1,000 (b) 96,54,321
            Solution: (a) The predecessor of 1,000 is 1,000 – 1 = 999
                          (b) The predecessor of 96,54,321 is 96,54,321 – 1 = 96,54,320
Example 4: In each of the following pairs of numbers, state which whole number is on the left
of the other number on the number line. Also, write them with the appropriate sign
                          (>, <) between them.

            Properties of Whole Numbers

            I. Addition
             Closure property

Let ‘a’ and ‘b’ be any two whole numbers, then the sum of ‘a’ and ‘b’ is also a whole number.
This property is known as closure property of addition of whole numbers.
               For example, 3 + 5 = 8
