Example 19: Find the following products. Working
(a) 9,356 × 1,000 (b) 1 1 (c) 2 3 5 1 4
(b) 17,215 × 2,000 1 7 2 1 5 2 4 5 9 1 7
(c) 2,45,917 × 6,000 × 2 × 6
(d) 34,228 × 9,000 3 4 4 3 0 1 4 7 5 5 0 2
Solution: (a) 9,356 × 1 000 = 93,56,000 (d) 3 2 2 7
3 4 2 2 8
(b) 17,215 × 2 000 = 3,44,30,000 × 9
(c) 2,45,917 × 6 000 = 1,47,55,02,000 3 0 8 0 5 2
(d) 34,228 × 9 000 = 30,80,52,000

Find the product.
(a) 9,64,999 × 100 (b) 31,241 × 5,000 (c) 22,211 × 7,000
Division
You have already learnt to divide 3-digit and 4-digit numbers by 1-digit and 2-digit numbers.
Now we will learn to divide 5-digit, 6-digit and 7-digit numbers by 2-digit, 3-digit and 4-digit
numbers.
Before we begin, let’s revise the properties of division.
Properties of division
1. Any number divided by itself gives 1.
For example, 7,624 ÷ 7,624 = 1; 4,30,179 ÷ 4,30,179 = 1
2. Any number divided by 1 gives the number itself.
For example, 8,275 ÷ 1 = 8,275; 6,34,11,832 ÷ 1 = 6,34,11,832
3. Zero divided by any number, results in zero.
For example, 0 ÷ 2,435 = 0; 0 ÷ 17,436 = 0
4. A number cannot be divided by 0.
For example, 3,795 ÷ 0 is not defined.
