            Multiplication with Zero in the Multiplier                        A Challenge!

            Example 6:      Multiply 230 by 40.                                A queen bee lays 1,500
                               1                                               eggs in a day! How many
            Solution:          2 3 0   ←   Write these two zeros in           eggs will it lay in 5 days?
                              × 4 0             the product.

                              9 2 0 0           Then multiply 23 by 4. 23 × 4 = 92
                                                Write 92 before the two zeros.

                            So, 230 × 40 = 9,200.
            Example 7:      Multiply 428 by 305.

                            Since the digit in the tens place of the multiplier is 0, the step is left out as
                            428 × 0 tens will give 0 as the product.
