Short Form
To write the short form of an expanded number, we write the face value of
each digit in the correct place.
Look at the given example.

100 + 20 + 8 = 1 2 8
The place value of 1 is 1 hundred.
So, we write 1 at the hundreds place.
The place value of 2 is 2 tens.
So, we write 2 at the tens place.
The place value of 8 is 8 ones.
So, we write 8 at the ones place.
Similarly, 100 + 6 = 106 and 100 + 80 + 6 = 186.
Top Tip
We can write a number in three diff erent forms.
