Summary of the lesson

Once emperor Ashoka goes to Shishupal’s house disguised as a guest. Shishupal talks about his
concern for the increasing lawlessness in the kingdom and how he would like to do something about
it given a chance. Ashoka makes him the law minister to give him a chance to prove himself. One day,
emperor Ashoka kills a royal servant due to some reason and Shishupal sentences him to death. But,
he declares that not the emperor but his statue would be hung in order to save the king and be just
too. The cour ers and the king praise Shishupal for his fearlessness and jus ce.
