7 The Famous Villager
Dr Rajendra Prasad was the first president of India. He was a man of great
intelligence, but he led a simple life. He paid little attention to his appearance
and was shy in nature. He was dark and skinny with a thick moustache.
Dr Prasad was well known as a national leader much before India became
independent. Once he had to travel by train to a remote town. It was 8 o’clock
intelligence : the ability to learn, appearance : the way one looks
understand and put the skinny : very thin
