Heinrich Rudolf Hertz (1857-1894) was a German physicist who gave the first satisfactory demonstration for the existence of electromagnetic radiation waves by making an apparatus to produce and detect them. His discovery was a pathfinder in the use of radio waves in communication and broadcasting. In 1930, the unit of frequency, i.e., hertz (Hz) was named in his honour. Also, a crater that lies on the far side of the moon is named in his honour.
